What Is It?
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a deeply rooted Mexican tradition that honours deceased loved ones. Far from being a mournful event, it is a vibrant celebration of life and a joyful reunion between the living and the dead. The belief is that, during these two days, the spirits of the departed return to visit their families. The tradition combines ancient Indigenous customs—particularly Aztec—with Catholic influences brought by Spanish colonizers.
