With an international career spanning leading wine estates in South Africa, Luke brings a wealth of experience to Vergelegen. His approach to winemaking focuses on expressing the character of the vineyard and the individuality of each vintage, offering guests an opportunity to discover the thinking and craftsmanship behind the wines.

At BLOOM, Chef Sebastian and his team celebrate the diversity of South African cuisine through seasonal menus rooted in local produce. Each course will be thoughtfully paired with a Vergelegen wine, creating an evening that brings together the distinctive character of the estate’s wines and the creativity of our kitchen.

Every spring brings a fresh burst of colour to Vergelegen Wine Estate, offering the perfect opportunity to discover its remarkable historic gardens and gather inspiration and expert gardening advice.

Join Vergelegen’s horticulturist and gardens manager, Richard Arm, for a guided walk through the 326-year-old estate, uncovering the stories behind its celebrated gardens, learning about its seasonal plantings and gaining practical tips to bring new life to your own garden.

The tour begins in the Sundial Garden, recently refreshed with colourful plantings ahead of the reopening of the adjoining Stables restaurant, before continuing past the first spring agapanthus blooms in the East Garden. Visitors will then explore the historic Octagonal Garden, renowned for its vibrant herbaceous borders framing the path to the Cape Dutch homestead.

The experience concludes in the beautiful Rose Garden, where dozens of roses flourish beneath ancient camphor trees, creating a tapestry of colour and fragrance.

Thousands of delphiniums, foxgloves and salvia have been planted for the season, while favourable weather and plentiful water promise an especially spectacular spring display.

Before setting off, guests can enjoy tea or coffee and a freshly baked scone at Firehorse, Vergelegen’s temporary restaurant.

The Potting Shed Gift Shop will also offer Vergelegen’s 10 most popular rose varieties for visitors to purchase and grow at home, alongside a selection of gardening accessories, soaps, body-care products and other estate-inspired gifts. A wider range of Vergelegen products is available through the estate’s online shop.
