Diners have the opportunity to taste four exciting new wine vintages from Brookdale Estate at a Winemaker’s Food and Wine pairing dinner to be held at the Bistro at Brookdale on Thursday 19 June. The gastronomic event will be hosted by Brookdale’s dynamic new winemaking team, Xander Sadie and assistant winemaker Shanice du Preez, with Executive chef Gary Coetzee presenting his sensational 5-course menu.

The highlight of the evening will be the pairing of the estate’s flagship Brookdale Old Vine Chenin Blanc 2023, with a Kingklip dish served with Saffron & Mussel Beurre Blanc. Sourced from a single block of certified Old Vine Chenin Blanc planted around 40 years ago, this wine once again showcases the complexity and balance for which Paarl’s terroir is renowned.

Other special features include the maiden vintage of the much-anticipated Twenty Field Blend (2024), crafted from 20 red varietals that were inter-planted as bush vines on the estate. Like the Sixteen Field Blend of 16 white varietals, the wine is vibrant expression that pays homage to the almost-forgotten art of field blend winemaking. The 2024 white field blend will be paired with Gnocchi Puttanesca, while the red field blend will be enjoyed with Smoked Duck as the main course.

The dinner will kick off with a delicious Mushrooms Cappuccino Soup with Truffle Foam served with the 2024 Bradbourne White Blend, and end on a sweet note with White Chocolate & Mascarpone Mousse, enjoyed with Brookdale’s Mason Road Cap Classique.

This winter, The Marine Hotel is reimagining its food and wine pairing series with a trio of Saturday afternoon events that celebrate the best of South African wine. Set against the stunning backdrop of the ocean and cliff path, the elegant Pavilion Restaurant offers a warm, inviting space for guests to savour exquisite cuisine and exceptional wines in good company.

The series opens on Saturday, 21 June 2025 at 12:00, featuring Iona Wines from the Elgin Valley. Priced at R495 per person, the experience includes a four-course lunch perfectly paired with four of Iona’s standout wines, beginning with a welcome glass of Iona Elgin Highlands Sauvignon Blanc 2024.

The starters come in two courses of Small Plates - Toasted Brioche and Chicken Liver Parfait served with Iona Elgin Highlands Chardonnay 2021, and Smoked Springbok Carpaccio paired with Iona Mr P Knows Pinot Noir 2023. Succulent Grilled Beef Fillet as main course will be expertly matched with the Iona Solace Syrah 2021, followed by a delightful trio of desserts: Mini Brûléed Lemon Tart, Passion Fruit Bomboloni, and Chocolate Caramel Mini Rolls.

The event will be hosted by Iona Winemaker Werner Muller in collaboration with Head Chef Oelof Vorster, promising an afternoon of fine food, superb wines, and engaging conversation.

Spoil yourself with this gourmet event and make a night of it by staying over at The Marine at a special rate of R4900 for 2 people sharing. PARKING – The Troyeville Hotel maintains security personnel stationed at both its front and back entrances. For your convenience, we recommend parking on Wilhelmina Street, located at the rear of the hotel. Front entrance is perfect for Uber / Bolt / taxi drop-offs and pickups.

ROOFTOP ACCESS – We have both stair and elevator access to the rooftop.

ROOFTOP VENUE – While we take pride in offering some of the most stunning Jozi skyline views, please note that our venue is outdoors. As the sun sets and temperatures may drop, we advise you to bring along something warm to ensure your comfort throughout and after the event.
