Relaxed social dining in the comfortable surrounds of a modern kitchen-focused restaurant

Origins Restaurant:

The soulful menu highlights ‘everyday’ favourites. Our Executive Chef, Rudi Blaauw showcases the impressive bounty of the Overberg, ensuring that the focus is always on local flavours and fresh ingredients.

The spacious dining room allows guests to observe the chefs in their element in the open kitchen, while a separate restaurant section with magnificent ocean views is perfect for small group bookings.

Whether you feel like a quick bite or a leisurely dining experience, you will find it at Origins. Starters focus on fresh seafood, followed by section dedicated to a variety of fresh, healthy salads. Main courses are divided into specialties from The Sea and The Land – with each ingredient reflecting our surroundings. Rounding off the menu are a selection of mouth-watering desserts and artisanal cheeses of the region.

The Pavilion:

The Pavilion serves as the breakfast room at The Marine.  An incredible spread of fresh fruit and freshly baked patisserie confections are laid out each morning, and hot breakfast options are served à la carte.

With edgy black-and-white decor, the main attraction of the restaurant’s interior is the glass wine cellar, stocked with top South African wines; looking outside, the restaurant overlooks the cliffs of Hermanus and the surrounding area.

The Sun Lounge:

Overlooking Walker Bay, The Sun Lounge at The Marine in Hermanus is the ideal spot to enjoy drinks and snacks while searching the waters for resident and visiting marine life.
The warm and inviting colour scheme here will not only tempt guests and visitors alike, but also provides a comfortable setting to while away a few hours.

The relaxed sophistication of The Sun Lounge is complemented by the wide variety of South African wines, sparkling wines, signature cocktails and delectable eats. A visit to The Sun Lounge is ideal for afternoon tea or early-evening drinks, enjoyed with the views of the surrounding cliffs and bay.

Rudi Blaauw - Executive Chef ‘Origins’

Chef Rudi brings with him extensive experience gained at two Relais & Châteaux properties, including five years as Executive Sous Chef at Delaire Graff Estate’s famed Indochine Restaurant in the Cape Winelands. During his most recent tenure as Executive Chef at Ellerman House in Cape Town, he worked alongside his mentor, Relais & Châteuax Grand Chef Peter Templehoff. Prior to Ellerman House, Templehoff raised the culinary bar at The Liz McGrath Collection during eleven years as Executive Chef at the award-winning Greenhouse at The Cellars Hohenort, sister property to The Marine and The Plettenberg.

From an early age Rudi Blaauw learned the tricks of the trade from his father, who also was a professional chef. The young apprentice cook completed his training at what was then known as The Mountain Manor Hotel in Franschhoek, now Le Franschhoek. During the past 20 years as a chef, he also gained valuable international experience working as a private chef in Qatar and the UK. When asked about his food philosophy, it’s an easy answer for this Chef who concentrates on the quality of the produce, letting that shine and believing that creativity will follow.
