Meet Chef Bhoomidev Hurkhoo, also known as Sawan,
an extraordinary culinary maestro born in Mauritius.
While initially embarking on the path of hospitality, becoming a chef wasn't my original intention. However, once I stepped foot into the kitchen, I discovered an insatiable passion that enveloped everything within the culinary realm.
Upon graduating in Mauritius, I embarked on a challenging journey within the hospitality industry. Starting as a commis chef back home, I later ventured to the stunning Seychelles Island, where I played a vital role in the opening of the island’s first 5-star hotel. It was there that I had the privilege of honing my skills under the guidance of renowned French chefs, delving deeper into the art of the kitchen.
After five unforgettable years, a desire for a greater challenge beckoned me. The opportunity to join a prestigious team at Emperors Palace in South Africa presented itself, and I seized it without hesitation. The timing couldn't have been more perfect, as it coincided with the Soccer World Cup, an event I couldn't bear to miss. Since my arrival in South Africa, I've developed a profound appreciation for its rich culture and diverse culinary landscape.
Throughout my journey, I have had the privilege of showcasing my talent in various hotels, restaurants, and corporate offices, allowing me to continually refine my craft. Ultimately, this incredible expedition led me to the exceptional Verdicchio team, where I have the freedom to delve deeper into my passion for Mediterranean cuisine, an area where I truly excel.
