  • Four South African Estates Named in The World’s 50 Best Vineyards Extended List for 2025

South Africa’s wine tourism industry continues to make its mark on the global stage, with four world-renowned estates securing positions on the World’s 50 Best Vineyards 2025 extended list, which ranks vineyards from No.51 to No.100 worldwide.

Celebrating the finest wine destinations across six continents, this prestigious list highlights the world’s most exceptional winery experiences, from breathtaking landscapes and cellar-door tastings to vineyard restaurants and immersive tours.

South Africa boasts four wineries in this year’s 51–100 list representing both the Stellenbosch and Franschhoek valleys, as well as the celebrated Hemel-en-Aarde region:

Tokara Wine & Olive Estate (No.71) – Stellenbosch
Known for its panoramic views, fine dining, and seamless fusion of art, wine, and architecture, Tokara continues to set the standard for premium wine tourism.

Delaire Graff Estate (No.79) – Stellenbosch
A symbol of luxury in the Cape Winelands, Delaire Graff combines world-class hospitality, exceptional wines, and one of the region’s most scenic terraces.

La Motte Wine Estate (No.94) – Franschhoek Valley (New Entry)
This elegant Franschhoek estate earns its place as a new entry for 2025, recognised for its sustainability focus, classical architecture, and elevated Cape Winelands dining.

Hamilton Russell Vineyards (No.99) – Hemel-en-Aarde (New Entry)
One of South Africa’s southernmost wine estates, Hamilton Russell’s inclusion underscores its international acclaim for cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and its refined, intimate visitor experience.

The inclusion of these four estates highlights the depth and diversity of South Africa’s wine tourism offering, from Stellenbosch’s contemporary sophistication to the timeless charm of Franschhoek and the coastal allure of Hemel-en-Aarde.

“These results affirm South Africa’s standing among the world’s elite wine destinations,” said William Drew, Director of Content for The World’s 50 Best Vineyards. “Each of these wineries offers not only outstanding wines, but also a truly world-class visitor experience.”

The World’s 50 Best Vineyards list is determined by over 700 global wine and travel experts, including sommeliers, journalists, and industry specialists, who vote for the vineyards that deliver the most memorable and authentic wine tourism experiences.

The 2025 awards ceremony will take place on 19 November at Amelia Park Wines in Margaret River, Western Australia, where the Top 50 will be revealed live.
