Visit Wakkerstroom over the long Heritage weekend of 20 to 24 September 2024 and take part in the Wakkerstroom Art, Craft and Jazz Fair.
Activities that are lined up for the weekend include drawing, oil and water colour painting, soft pastel drawing, pottery, leather work, knitting and crocheting, drumming, marimba and storytelling workshops. Local artists will be exhibiting in a variety of venues around the village.
This year, in collaboration with the Wakkerstroom Music Festival, the Art and Craft Fair weekend will include a jazz performance “TO JAZZ FOR” with Ilse-Louise Herholdt. See and listen to Ilse-Louise perform an impressive eight instruments, including the flute, piano, sax, bass guitar, cello, pan-flute, harmonica and organ at this year’s Fare. She will be performing at the Papillon Venue at 13h00 on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September. Ticket price is R120.
This year’s Festival Artist is Vian Roos, a multimedia and internationally recognised artist specialising in graphic design, photography and art. See his work at the Ijuba Art Studio in Kerk Street.
Christiaan Snyman, an accomplished bass baritone, is the Festival Musician and Potter. Christiaan will present a pottery masterclass and will also delight audiences with well-known Italian opera music and popular music from the movies at a Retro Italian Dinner and Song event on Saturday evening.
Actor, screenwriter and director Paul Slabolepszy will present a masterclass in storytelling on Sunday evening. This is a rare opportunity to attend an in-depth masterclass on the basics of storytelling for books, stage, TV and film. Also consider participating in a marimba workshop or a drumming workshop, a fun way to express your musical creativity.
The full programme for the weekend can be found at www.wacf.info. Some of the workshops have limited space so please book in advance. Bookings for all the workshops, activities and jazz can be made at https://events.thryve.com/wacf/.
We look forward to seeing you at the Wakkerstroom Art, Craft and Jazz Fair this Heritage Day weekend.
