Italy Comes To South Africa For Vino In Piazza – Wines Of Italy

For the first time in South Africa, Wine lovers will have the opportunity to taste some of the best wines Italy has to offer at the “Vino in Piazza, Wines of Italy” on from the 30th November to the 2nd December at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg.

The Italian Wine Show will introduce 21 Italian wine producers from 11 different regions located in the North, centre and South of Italy: Veneto, Piedmont, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria, Abruzzo, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily to the South African market.

Some of the Italian wines being showcased include a wide range of red, white and rosé wines, including sparkling ones which are better known as Prosecco or Spumante.

Vino in Piazza is an event organised by the Italian Consulate of Johannesburg, together with the Italian Trade Commission and the Italian Chamber of Commerce to promote Italy as a destination for tourism and business as well as to showcase Italian products and brands.

‘As the Italian Consulate to Johannesburg, we are very proud to bring a taste of Italy to South Africa and in particular to Melrose Arch – this event is one of the many that the Italian Government has organised in South Africa and across the world to promote ‘la settimana della cucina Italiana’’. The Italian wine show will not only be a unique event for wine lovers and connoisseurs, but will also provide a cultural experience and exchange between our two beautiful countries.” remarked Marco Petacco, the Consul General of Italy in Johannesburg.

The 3-day event will be split up into 8 sessions, providing visitors an opportunity to taste these unique Italian wines as well as to partake in presentations  on the showcased wines, together food & wine experts which will provide essential knowledge on the wines, their unique flavours, how to enjoy them and  with which foods to best pair them.

“We are very excited to bring Italian wine producers to South Africa for the very first time. This event not only opens the doors to wine lovers to enjoy a taste of Italy in their own back yard but it also provides an opportunity to further enhance trade between the two countries” – Marco Pintus, Italian Trade Commission Director for South Africa & sub-Saharan Countries. He adds, “South Africa already has a culture of good wine and its popularity in the market is constantly increasing both locally and internationally; its important therefore to provide the consumer with a choice of different wines especially those coming from Italy, a country with a history of 2,000 years in wine production.”

The 19 Italian exhibitors and 3 local distributors of Italian wines are synonymous with extremely high-quality wine as the Italian Wine Show aims to expose the best image of Italian wine in South Africa.

There are also some great prizes to be won: a return ticket to Rome courtesy of Alitalia valued at R15,800; 2 tickets for a 3-Day Cruise to the Portuguese Island in an Ocean View Cabin valued at R17,210.00 courtesy of MSC Cruises; Ferrari hampers valued at R2,000.00 each and Ferrero limited edition pyramids valued at R1,000.00 each.
