Hermanus Whale Festival
14 September 2017
The 26th Hermanus Whale Festival takes place from 29 September – 1 October 2017. The festival celebrates the return of the Southern Right Wales to our coast and all marine life above and below the ocean.
The weekend is packed with community and cultural activities, including food, quality crafters, sport events, kiddies’ entertainment, music, a vintage car show, an interactive marine themed eco village, adventure activities down in the Old Harbour, great restaurants and of course land, boat and air based whale watching!
The Eco Marine Tent partners with a number of local, internationally awarded, eco-tourism operators, who share their information and interact with visitors. The interactive exhibitions are aimed at the youth, our future conservationists. Kids can enjoy the treasure hunt in the Eco-Marine Tent on Saturday and Sunday from 12-2pm.
Wine lovers will appreciate the African Penguin Reserve by Creation Wines, which helps to promote the plight of the endangered African Penguin. The wine label was especially created for the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary (APSS), a project of the Dyer Island Conservation Trust.
The APSS is based in Gansbaai and is open to the public daily with no entrance fee and a feeding time at 3pm that can be observed on the special drop down screens.
Don’t miss the famous street parade on Saturday morning. Pop into the Whales and Wheels classic Car Show and watch Watershed Live on the 29th of September at the Coke Music Marquee on Gearings.
The weekend promises to be a fun filled day out for people of all ages. Don’t miss South Africa’s only eco-marine festival. For more information and daily programmes, please visit Hermanuswhalefestival.co.za
