Our Chef, Philip Pretorius has been cooking delicious meals for over 22 years. His journey started at Prue Leith Chef School whereafter he went to work abroad for two years – cooking in Switzerland, Ireland and England. The next step he took led him back to South Africa where he worked at Hillside Tavern in Pretoria. He proudly adds that during his time of working at Hillside Tavern, they also won the coveted Golden T Bone award for the best Steakhouse in South Africa. Phillip moved to Cape Town in 2001 where his chef positions included working at The Wijnhuis restaurant in Stellenbosch for 6 years, owning Dorp Street theatre for a few years, he also cooked at Fairview’s Goatshed restaurant for 10 years. Phillip started his own restaurant in Paarl which unfortunately needed to close its doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but whilst that dream of his is on pause, he showed that nothing will stop him as today he is cooking up a storm here at Golfing Goat!
