Pigalle Restaurant - Melrose Arch
Serving the Best shellfish in SA!
Renowned South African interior designer Deborah Witkin once again created a modern and fresh ambience that remains true to the The Arch's metropolitan way of life.
“Pigalle Melrose Arch is somewhat trendier than the other Pigalles, while retaining the element of elegance and luxuriousness of the exiting brand". Deborah elaborates; "While I would describe Sandton as Italian Baroque, Bedfordview as African Chic and Cape Town as luxurious Parisian, with Melrose Arch we opted for 'eclectic comfort', with a slight Asian influence."
Floor to ceiling windows offer panoramic views from the first-floor restaurant, with the balcony tables offering guests a clear view of buzz of the piazza. Soft furnishings in rich chocolate brown and gold blend perfectly with suede chairs, shimmering crystal and dimmed lighting. The trendy bar area features a long table and grand gold couch where guests can sip an after-dinner martini.
A new innovation to Pigalle's Melrose Arch location is the freshly prepared sushi menu and daytime menu. Busy shoppers and executives can take a break at the smart sushi bar, sample a light lunch dish like the popular duck and papino salad, beer battered fish and seared ostrich and lychee salad.
Pigalle Melrose Arch is open for lunch and dinner offering its well known a la carte menu which has been sampled for five years by local celebrities and international stars Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Richard Branson, Diana Ross and Bono.
"Having spent 30 years as restaurateurs we're known for our seafood, but travelling around the world and exploring trends and tastes have meant the Pigalle menus have diversified into just about everything", says Naldo. "Not all the Pigalle menus are the same. Eighty per cent of the menus share our signature dishes; the rest is left up to each of chefs to create."
At Melrose Arch Vasco Velho signature style features Bordelaise fillet served with a marrow bone and port jus, native lobster thermador and vermouth and scallop soup, supported by Pigalle classics like herb-crusted rack of lamb, sweet langoustines grilled in lemon butter and slow-roasted duck in Grand Marnier Sauce.
Diners can view the fabulous glass-encased wine cellar, glowing under dimmed lights from their tables. A wide selection of wines can be found on the wine list from the country's top estates ranging from the palatably affordable to top-drawer drops.
Naldo believes that "The meal has to speak for itself. But what keeps people coming back is consistency of quality, excellent service making the meal a total experience, as opposed to simply handing your guests a menu. Eating at Pigalle is like going to a show ... the curtain opens and then magic happens, right until the final curtain falls."
