A Jewel on the North Coast

The Fig Tree Restaurant is located between Ballito and Salt Rock on the beautiful Eco Friendly Simbithi Golf Estate.   Named after the fig tree in the centre of the clubhouse, the restaurant boasts stunning views of the golf course.  The large deck, situated under shady trees offers "al fresco" dining, and the wine cellar offers a perfect venue for private dinner parties.  The wine list is selected by local resident John Platter.

The restaurant offers live music on selected evenings and the Curry Buffets and Sunday Carvery are extremely popular with both locals and visitors to the area. There is also a fantastic kids play park area where the kids can enjoy themselves whilst guests relax, lap up the view and enjoy a meal in the restaurant. 

The Chef is none other than multiple award-winning Gerard van Staden, who has served up culinary masterpieces in several continents.  

This wonderful restaurant is a real jewel on the North Coast.

The John Platter Wine Gallery

The John Platter Wine Gallery is available to hire for small conferences and private dinner parties. It is popular for smaller functions, intimate cocktail parties and for entertaining smaller groups of corporate clients. The venue has a pull down screen and projector, and can accommodate smaller meetings of between 5 and 12 delegates.

Customized packages, including those with a private "fine dining” dinner after your conference or meeting, are available.

In his career, Chef Daryn Bowers has served up culinary masterpieces in some of South Africa’s most idyllic locations, He is excited in taking up his position of Executive Chef at Simbithi Country Club’s Fig Tree restaurant. Chef Daryn started his career as Head Chef at Zest Restaurant, Durban and has had lodge experience in being the Executive Chef and lodge manager of Duma Manzi Private Game Reserve and of Isibindi Africa Lodges – Isibindi Zulu Lodge on the KZN Battlefields as well as Thonga Beach Lodge in Mabibi. 

With hotel experience of having worked at Three Cities Urban Park Hotel and Spa, Three Cities The Docklands Hotel and Wodka Restaurant and Signature Life Hotel Jozini Tiger Lodge, to name a few.

His last position held was Executive Chef at the Protea Hotel by Marriott Edward, Durban, where he brought the Grand Dame of the Golden Mile to life with his culinary flair and charismatic personality. Chef Daryn is unquestionably an asset to the Fig Tree Restaurant and Simbithi Country Club. His depth of experience has given Daryn a vast wealth of knowledge where he has been exposed to many diverse kitchens and mastered many styles of cooking, in his own original way. He is eager to apply this wealth of knowledge and experience to the Fig Tree restaurant. A consummate perfectionist when working with food, he finds it easy to talk to people, is a natural leader and is passionate in everything he does.

His resume is remarkable and his accolades are certainly outstanding.
