Kenny van der Velde
Kenny van der Velde of TWR Hotel School, a
member of SACA’s Development Board, has been awarded first
place in the regional finals of the Jeune Talent d’Auguste
Escoffier competition, held in November in Reunion.
Organised though the Association of Hotel Schools in Sub-Saharan
Africa, Kenny was required to complete a written test and
prepare a prescribed dish, chosen for its traditional French
style. He was awarded points for the organisation,
sanitation and upkeep of his work area, cooking technique and
presentation.
Kenny will now travel to Nice, France,
early this year to compete in the international final of this
prestigious competition – we wish him all the best.
Kenny is from Johannesburg and is 25 years
old. He matriculated from Parktown Boys High School in
1997 and has previously studied Business Management and
Technical Drawings. He gained four years working
experience in the UK before returning to South Africa to further
his education - Kenny has just completed his second year at TWR
Hotel School, where he is studying Food and Beverage Management.
Kenny works with the competitions portfolio on the SACA
Development Board.
